Protecting children from secondhand smoke in cars is a no brainer. Unfortunately for the people of Lincoln we have an MP that is a no brainer, and the quicker we show him the door the better!February 12, 2014 at 4:32pm
Conservatives, including the Tory Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt. David Cameron, although not present, also pledged Reebok Lifters New his support for a ban. I was ashamed to read, however, that Lincoln Conservative MP Karl McCartney voted to allow smoking in cars with children to continue.
only be discredited if there is something worth being discredited for and its not like Karl hasn done any of that himself. There is no witch hunt against smokers the idea is to prevent defenceless children having to breathe in second hand smoke.
Kamran Hussain and what about 2nd hand diesel fumes Kamran. I take it you would support a ban on diesel cars near school entrances at start/finish times in order to protect children in a similiar (and i would say more effective) way.
Charlie Wardale . Anybody who manages to get the word Nazis into a debate about a child health, has sorely lost the plot!February 13, 2014 at 12:52pm
Supporting the ban on smoking in cars with children
In voting to allow smoking in cars with children present to continue, Mr McCartney ignored the advice of health experts, the overwhelming weight of public opinion and even the example set by his own Tory Party leader and Health Secretary. Most significantly though, he signalled that he values the rights of big tobacco and the rights of car smokers over the rights Reebok Aztec White

There has never been proved, in any study, that there is ANY danger from SHS. Even the government acceptred that (the last one, not this one) and yet is still so much in thrall to ASH and the rest of the Tobacco Control Nazis that they passed this stupid law. No Biff(!), it is the ones who voted for it that are no brainers!
Whilst I consider Mr McCartney stance to be disgraceful, his vote last night did not surprise me. Since Karl McCartney was elected in 2010, he accepted over 1,300 of hospitality from tobacco companies and supported them where he can. He signed a letter to a national newspaper opposing plain packaging of cigarettes and stood up in Parliament to attack the pub smoking ban, which doctors say has saved thousands of lives.
This week in Parliament, MPs voted overwhelmingly in favour of stopping smoking in cars with children present. In doing so, they put the rights of children not to breath in high levels of dangerous chemicals above the rights of adults to smoke cigarettes in cars in their presence. This is an incredibly positive move and will prevent millions of children being exposed to dangerous chemicals every week.
Second hand smoke contains more than 4,000 chemicals, some of which are known to cause cancer. Exposure has been strongly linked to chest infections, asthma, ear problems and cot death in children, and research indicates that 300,000 children in the UK visit a GP each year because of the effects of second hand smoke, with 9,500 going to hospital. Unsurprisingly, polling shows that 80% of the public support a ban on smoking in cars with children present.

OK, well lets call them Tobacco Control Stasi if you prefer the left wing slant. Either way, ASH and the like are NGO populated by unelected people who are dictating our lifestyles and eroding our freedoms. It not a debate about childrens health, it never was. It was never a debate about health in general. It about CONTROL. The next items on their agenda will be fizzy pop, salt, sugar (already being discussed), fatty foods. the list goes on. When they start to dictate on what YOU can eat or do Biff, you make wake up to the reality of the Britain we live in today.

Every single Labour MP voted last night to protect children from harmful smoke and they were supported by a large number of Reebok All Terrain Super
Around one in five young children are regularly exposed to second hand smoke in cars and experts say children are especially vulnerable to passive smoking because of their smaller lungs and quicker breathing. According to the British Lung Foundation, nearly half a million children in England are exposed to potentially toxic levels of second hand smoke in family cars every week.
of children not to be put at high levels of risk. I distrust the woman immensely. Not just because of her stance on smoking, but because she appears someone who would say anything to discredit an opponent and seduce a vote. I am a non smoker, but the witch hunt against smokers is frightening. If it is so dangerous why hasn tobacco been reclassified a dangerous drug. What next take the children from parents who visit Macdonalds regularly, ban those who let children use mobile phones after all they do cause brain tumours how about banning children in all cars that go over 30 miles an hour after all the roads aren safe. in the Commons yesterday.
