During that final year, her honours' supervisor asked her to think about doing her PHD.
Doctors informed Shaileigh's parents Roger and Jackie that even though she had survived, she would not be able to walk or talk, and that they should not expect anything from her academically.
In the third year of Shaileigh's degree, one of her lecturers suggested that she think about completing her honours degree.
"It was crazy," she said.
But again, Shaileigh strived above and beyond what was expected of her, and completed her PHD.
"I also tutored history, geography and technology," she said.
"I thought of no way," she said.
Taking on more than most others would, Shaileigh completed her fourth and final year of her degree and her honours in the one.

"All of my hospital memories are good memories," she said.

"At the end of the year I thought I would just apply and see if I could get in," she said, and sure enough she did.

"I was in there for a couple of Christmases and Santa would come visit me, I've been really blessed in the fact I have no negative memories in hospital at Saucony Triumph all."
Born at 26 weeks, Sunrise Christian School teacher Shaileigh Page was given a one percent chance of survival.
"My dad is a teacher, and mum worked at the Morphett Vale campus, so I grew up learning about schools and being around schools.

During this five year period, she began lecturing in mathematics curriculum, relationships for learning and development learning and inclusive teaching at Flinders alongside relief teaching at many different Sunrise schools.
"I loved Flinders." she said.
"I guess I just wanted to be like my dad, so I've always known I wanted to be a teacher."

"I finished my final prac and wrote my honours thesis that year, and finished the bachelor of education with honours."
"I was a Sunrise girl," she said.
In September 2012 after completing her PHD, Shaileigh began to feel unsettled working at Flinders University.
