´╗┐Tahoe planners prep for 'cataclysmic' flood

from unprecedented disaster. Some 25,000 area residents are living in shelters and temporary housing, with more stranded Californians taking Reebok Dmx Max

shelter here. Health officials worry over disease threats associated with flooding, with industrial toxins, molds, sewage and animal carcasses all posing threats.Flooding in Carson City has incapacitated key state and local agencies, diminishing effectiveness of federal disaster aide coming to the region. Leaders contemplate the possibility of "structural population changes" in the aftermath of the disaster similar to what was experienced in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. There's no way Friday's exercise could touch on every aspect of what might happen and how communities might respond in the wake of such a disaster, but taking steps now to be prepared can only help in the event it were to actually occur, Kenneston and others involved said."This takes it to an entirely different level," Kenneston said of Reebok Shoes 2018 the scope of such an event. "We have to be prepared to make sure we lessen or eliminate the effects. We have to look at citizen evacuation. How do we move people to higher ground? How do we protect our buildings? What do we do about hazardous materials downstream? (There are) just many, many events we don't normally think about.

Emergency planners gathered in Reno Friday to prepare for an epic flood an event of scope and scale so vast participants hope to never see it their lifetime, but which history suggests will some day occur. The scenario played out at Washoe County's Regional Emergency Operations Center revolved around a so called "ARkstorm," a massive one two punch of snow and rain that would swamp the Reno Tahoe area in a flood far worse than big ones experienced in recent history such as in January 1997."We know we have a flood risk here, but this is a cataclysmic flood event," said Aaron Kenneston. the county's emergency operations manager. "It would be almost beyond the bounds of imagination, but it has happened. We know it's happened before."Friday's exercise, attended by more than 100 emergency officials and volunteers, followed a series of workshops across the region last year exploring the possibility of a superstorm hitting Reno Tahoe. The idea is to begin planning how state and local government, tribes, utilities and others might respond to full fledged disaster. Geological Survey with "AR" standing for atmospheric river describes storms of a type experts believe hit the West every few hundred years. The last stormy siege hit in mid December 1861 and lasted into January 1862. California was inundated with a flood so damaging it bankrupt the state. Western Nevada was hit hard as well in an event chronicled by Mark Twain, who was stranded for days by the raging floodwaters of the Carson River. The USGS modeled a similar modern storm based on factual records from two storms that hit the west, one in January 1969 and another in February 1986. Experts gauged potential impacts today if those two storms, fueled Reebok Exofit Hi Vintage

by a massive river of atmospheric moisture, were to hit back to back. The first big storm buries Lake Tahoe in snow for days and is followed by a warmer storm with drenching rain, causing massive flooding at Tahoe, Reno Sparks, Carson City and throughout the region.Friday's exercise simulated the ARkstorm throughout its progression, starting on its eighth day with Tahoe buried in snow. On the 18th day, the entire region is awash in unprecedented floodwaters. 50. All other mountain highways accessing the area from the west, including Interstate 80, are closed. Many travelers from California are stranded in the Reno area. Elements of the Nevada National Guard are dispatched to aid with serious flooding in Southern California. Forecasters are watching a disturbing weather pattern in the Pacific, warning that more wet weather is on the way. Day 18:The worst predictions have become reality, with floodwaters inundating parts of downtown Reno and Sparks, as well as the majority of Minden Gardnerville and much of Carson City. Thirty eight people are reported killed in the area with mandatory evacuations ordered across the region. There are widespread power outages. Rocks slides close area highways and catastrophic environmental damage is feared at Lake Tahoe.Major flooding is occurring to the west in the Bay Area and Sacramento. There's no help coming from there. People from Reno Tahoe are being evacuated to Salt Lake City and Boise. Day 35:It's two weeks after the ARkstorm, with Northern Nevada and California in the process of recovering Reebok Black Shoes For Women
