Townley said she was glad the trial was over so "they won't drag my daughter's name though the mud."
In the charge relating to shooting Weller, Darren Mack submitted an "Alford" plea, in which he said he did not intend to kill the judge but acknowledged there was enough evidence to convict him.
"All I can see in my mind was how my daughter was slaughtered like an animal she was slaughtered like an animal and she was the mother of his children," said Charla Mack's mother, Soorya Townley. "She was one of the most magnificent people that has ever walked this earth. And we don't have her anymore."
As part of the plea agreement, Darren Mack will be sentenced on the murder charge to life in prison with parole possible in 20 years. He also will face two to 20 years on the attempted murder charge and another consecutive term of two to 20 years for using a deadly weapon.

"There are no winners in this case," Freeman said. "It has been a very, very long, difficult experience."
Concerns about taking that approach played into the decision to enter a plea, said Darren Mack's other lawyer, David Chesnoff.
But, she said, part of her wished the trial would've continued and that Darren Mack would've been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Flanked by his two lawyers, Darren Mack answered "correct," when Judge Douglas Herndon asked if the killing of 39 year old Charla Mack was done with premeditation and deliberation. And in a statement at the end of the hearing, he acknowledged that his actions against Weller were a mistake.
The judge will impose sentence Jan. 17 18 on the attempted murder charge and decide whether the murder and attempted murder sentences will be consecutive or concurrent. He said he wanted to allow ample time for the families and victims to make statements.
"There are some very important things to say, and I've remained quiet throughout this whole thing," he said.
