Local mother Pat Gale knows all too well the heartache of losing a child from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) after her almost four month old daughter Kirsty passed away 24 years ago.

"The Red Nose Day fundraiser is always well supported by the Whyalla community," Mrs Gale said.
Mrs Gale will be helping to sell merchandise and hand out information for Red Nose Day this week at Westland Shopping Centre from Wednesday, June 25 to Friday, June 27.
"The more education people know about SIDS risk factors the more chances of preventing child deaths," Mrs Gale said.
A stall will be set up in the mall from 10am to 3pm on these days for community members to purchase a Red Nose Day item or make a donation to SIDS and Kids.
Local volunteers will be selling Red Nose Day merchandise at Westland Shopping Centre from tomorrow. Volunteer Pat Gale knows first hand the heartache of SIDS and will be manning the Red Nose Day stall.
Over the years its services have broadened beyond SIDS to support all families who have experienced the sudden and unexpected death of a baby or child regardless of the cause.
Mrs Gale said it was important that community members continued to be mindful of SIDS and support research and services.
The heartbreak of the sudden death of a child is something no parent should have to experience.
Devastated by the news, the band cancelled its shows until lead singer Charmaine Ostenheden suggested they perform a charity concert to raise funds for SIDS research as well as remember the life of the little girl.
Not for profit organisation SIDS and Kids is dedicated to saving the lives of babies and children during pregnancy, birth, infancy and childhood and supporting bereaved families.
Mrs Gale said the event raised more than $3000 and since then she has actively supported local fundraising efforts for Reebok Gold And Black
SIDS and Kids is a not for profit organisation that was created in 1977 to support families who had experienced the death of a baby from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

At the time, Mrs Gale's husband Kevin was a sound engineer for local rock band Ammo and the band was set to perform a gig a week after Kirsty's death.
Nose Day is the main annual fundraiser for SIDS Reebok Ortholite Running Shoes and Kids with $16 million invested in research to date.
