Although Kingsley didn't know on Friday how long the average CCHS survey takes, he said it's definitely more than 15 minutes. "It's very difficult to get a good sense of someone's overall health with just a couple of questions," he said.
None of the questions on the CCHS were on the mandatory long form census, which the Conservative government scrapped in 2011.
When the interviewer wouldn't tell him, he said he didn't want to continue.

An interviewer called back the next day, and Mark asked how much longer the survey would take.
"This is not a problem that we have constantly," he said of the complaint. "This is a bit unusual."
Survey calls go too far
the family home eight weeks ago. Kari answered some initial demographic questions, then the interviewer asked to speak to Mark. Surveys need to have a mix of sexes and ages for validity.
Kingsley did not have any data Friday on the number of interviewer complaints StatsCan receives. The response rate for the CCHS is about 65 per cent, meaning interviewers need to call about 100,000 Canadians a year to gather the data, he said.
Repeated, unwanted calls are a tactic Kari Halsted expects from scammers and telemarketers not from the federal Saucony Shoes Review government.
Halsted said although she recognizes the importance of thorough population health data collection, she finds the approach StatsCan used disrespectful.
"If this was an ex boyfriend blocking his number, and saying 'It doesn't matter what somebody says, I'm calling anyway, and you have to talk to me,' we would call the police about that. When it's the government doing it, what you are supposed to do?" she said.
survey respondents, Kingsley said.
He denied they use aggressive tactics, and said there are no bonuses or quotas for employees to complete more surveys.
The calls also started coming from blocked phone numbers.
Kari said when she told one of the callers her husband wasn't home and wasn't interested in the survey, the caller responded, "That doesn't matter. We need to speak with him."
She and her husband Mark say Statistics Canada went too far by pestering them with phone calls for a voluntary health survey, and refusing to take no for an answer.
Mark started answering questions, he was on his way out the door to another commitment. After 15 minutes, he said he had to go, and hung up.
An interviewer will try up to 40 times to get someone on the phone, and if no one answers, they assume no one is home. They also try to limit phone contact with the respondent to three calls, he said.
Interviewers are supposed to take no for an answer, Kingsley said.

Bob Kingsley, assistant director of StatsCan's health statistics division, said it was likely the annual Canadian Community Health Survey the Halsteds are referencing. With an aim to collect responses from 65,000 Canadians a year, it's one of the StatsCan surveys with the largest sample size.
The phone interviewers ask people to rate their overall health and explain any conditions they have, among other queries.
The calls didn't stop. They've counted at least nine in eight weeks, including times when they were out of the house, Kari said.
